Taylor Swift…when will it end?!

// November 11th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Random

I turn on the radio and I can almost guarantee a Taylor Swift song within 10 minutes. She is dominating the air waves right now.  She took down Miley Cyrus without effort and beat out Britney as well.  I’m almost thinking the “bad girl” image is inverting itself. Maybe. Taylor is 19 years old with over $50 mill to her name. I like to wonder what life would be like in her shoes.  I wonder how she became so popular, so fast. She didn’t have a television show or a famous sibling.  She simply wrote songs that people can easily relate. And she’s by far not ugly, so those two things can get you places, in my opinion.  Overall, being attractive and being able to relate to others will get you where you want to be…

All We Are is Entertainment

// November 2nd, 2009 // 11 Comments » // Life, Music

Some of you may know that Rise Against is one of my favorite bands, ever. Their lyrics, if you understand them, are truly amazing. This song “Entertainment” is epic, it talks about our modern society how we are like puppets and how outside forces control our thoughts, our decisions, our actions. I like to be open minded and question things so I (hopefully) don’t fall in these societal traps. Here is a lyric I really like:

“All we are is entertainment caught up in our own derangements. Tell us what to say and what to do.”

Almost everyone has somebody they look up to. Everybody looks up to an actress, actor, singer, dancer, musician, etc. Pretty much anybody in the entertainment industry has hardcore, loyal fans who look up. Some of these loyal fans go to extreme lengths such as changing their hairstyle or their clothes or their view on life. I know a crazy girl who reads those insane fashion/girl magazines. The magazine is like a leash that is strapped tightly around the reader. Here’s another lyric from that song: “”All we are are pretty faces, picture perfect, bottled rage. Packaged synthesized versions of you!”  The “we” they are referring to is to the magazines covers, etc. These magazines are fake versions of real people. These fake magazine covers are distortions of realilty with an impossible chance for the average person reaching the end product.

This quote ties in with this video. In the entertainment industry this is called a “retouch.” Lol, more like a re-do! I don’t think not one part of her face is legit her own. I wonder how it feels like for a model to see her body plastered up on a billboard knowing that someone transformed and enchanced it. Is it like seeing an identical twin who is better than you in every way? Or is it a self-esteem boost which makes you think you really look flawless?

“They all scream California and its toppling empire, but can’t you see the end is coming soon?”

We all scream for California, in the sense that we all want to be what California is. We all want to be like the people we see on TV, we all want to become them. We idol them we look up to them, and when he says “And its toppling empire” I believe that pretty much speaks for itself. Cali has become an empire of its own and its toppling over us… nowhere in the world can you get away from it. The Hollywood / Entertainment industry is everywhere!

The bottom line? Hollywood is trying to preserve an image of falseness and insecurity hidden behind pride. Too many people unknowingly believe what they see in the entertainment industry and are overwhelmed by the glorious results that they don’t stop to think!

Even though I never really listened to his music nor did I was ever a major fan of him, I still believe that this moment in time, his death can send out a message to everyone. His music, his dance movies, his talent is what sparked pop music to be what it is today. Who knows if Britney Spears, Rihana, Fall Out boy would even exist without Michael Jackson? Why? Because each of these artists have used dance moves and lyrics from Michael Jacksons mega career. As the saying goes, “Good Artists Copy, But Great Artists Steal.” I’m sure they did not steal lyrics or dance moves without appropriate consent, but that is why these artists are just ‘good’ and Michael Jackson was truly great. You’ve always gotta be original, because if you’re like someone else, you’re just one step down from greatness.

Secondly, with Michael’s passing I really started to think about my family and friends. What would happen if they do suddenly just disappeared? Did I ever get a chance to say goodbye? I’m sure there are people who Michael did not get a chance to say goodbye too and will never able to. And to those who were his friends, what about those who never got that autograph or who never got another chance to see him. Next time you say goodbye to someone, make it count, make it a moment to remember.

And finally, sometimes in life you never can truly appreciate something to the fullest until it’s gone. Remember your favorite toy you used to play with everyday until you lost it and could never find it again? Did you ever think that one toy had a big impact on your day to day lifestyle? Think back to a time when you were away from home for a long period of time. Or a time when the power suddenly went out and you had no Internet. ;o Oh noez! Michael Jackson was remembered on the day he died. Of all of his talents and achievements, not those crazy stuff he did, like dangling children off balconies. Sure that was dumb, but celebrities don’t live normal lives and nobody can say what was going through his mind or if he was under the influence of something. Back on topic, appreciate what you got and who you have, because you will miss them once they are gone.

Lastly, watch this video by Kev Jumba. He defends M.J. from wrongful accusations such as M.J. wanted to be white so that’s why he changed his skin pigments. Wrong. M.J> had Enter the URL and it turned his skin white and in order to cover up he changed his whole skin color. Why not? He had the money? Talking about money, Michael Jackson donated more money towards charities than any other celebrity. More than Bill Gates, more than Oprah. < Micheal Jackson.
